“You never know how strong you are,
until being strong is the only choice you have.”
-Bob Marley
One of music’s most global and identifiable icons and an advocate for those suffering and world peace. A life lost too soon to cancer…
Unfortunately, cancer comes in many forms, and touches many. As dedicated funds and focus go into ongoing important research, awareness and advocacy is becoming prevalent and supports more available and relevant.
Awareness and understanding are also important first steps in your personal health journey. Knowing the symptoms to look for and not waiting to see if they go away if you notice them, especially if there has been a sudden change for you. Talk to your GP about any concerns you might have, they can provide you with endless information, check your family history with you and in turn, talk about your risks. They can also provide you with relevant referrals for tests, scans and/or specialist opinion.
If you can, support the causes that support the sufferers, research in to the who, what, where, why and how of these diseases, can significantly increase the treatment opportunities, survival rates and hopefully, one day, a cure.

Your Health This Month
October marks a month in which cancer is at the forefront of Health Care awareness, and there are a range of ways you can participate in fundraising and supporting these amazing causes.
Breast Cancer Awareness months begins, painting the month pink. As the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, the research into a cure and better treatments, is so important. Just under sixty people will be diagnosed and nine people will lose their lives, per day, to Breast Cancer. The survival rate has increased, but there is still work to do. The National Breast Cancer Foundation offer unmeasured support to those who are fighting the disease and those alongside them, they are an incredible resource of encouragement, care and understanding. Look out for the Pink Ribbons and check out nbcf.org.au for more information on how you can get involved.
It is also “Frocktober” for Ovarian Cancer – raising awareness and funds for ongoing research into this almost “silent” cancer, that has no early detection. Four women will be diagnosed every day, with Australian dying every eight hours from the disease. Given those statistics, it is clear that there is still so much work to be done to find a point of early detection, pinpoint relative symptoms, increase the treatments available and in turn the survival rates. Check out the Frocktober link – frocktober.org.au – on how you can support this great cause.
This month will also see a number of people getting out and about on their bikes for the Great Cycle Challenge. Participants of this, will nominate a distance to ride over the month and be raising money for Kids suffering with Cancer. The premise being – “Kids should be living their lives, not fighting for it!” If you want to get involved, please visit greatcyclechallenge.com.au and get riding, or support someone who is taking part.
