Your Health This Month

5 February 2025

February Is Heart Health Awareness Month

February is all about matters of the heart – and no, not just that special day brought to you by St. Valentine – it is Heart Health Awareness month.

Just like a car cannot function without its engine, your body cannot function without your heart. The condition of your heart is so important to your overall health and is crucial to a great quality of life.

Heart Disease is the number one cause of death in Australia and picking up things early, may reduce the chances of something bigger happening in the future.

We all know the basics of keeping our heart at its best, however getting a thorough check can make all the difference.

Your GP can conduct a Heart Health Assessment once per calendar year. This comprehensive assessment covers factors such as family history, diet, exercise, with physical examination, and may provide you with referrals to other services, where needed, advice and information.

The assessment is open to people aged 30 and over, with the purpose of early detection of cardiovascular disease, even where no concern exists prior, and is covered by Medicare*.

Talk to your GP today, about any concerns you may have, or even if no concerns, if you are interested in having your cardiovascular health checked out.

February is also REDFEB in Australia, where you are encouraged to wear red and donate to Heart Research Australia. These donations go straight into much needed research and raising awareness around heart disease.

So, embrace the love and go Red in Feb, see what makes your heart tick with a Heart Health Assessment and as always, stay well!

Heart Research Australia

Heart disease affects 2 in 3 Australians and still remains our leading cause of death. But you can help make a difference. By making a monthly donation or by making a one-off gift, you can help fund world first studies and breakthroughs into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. And together, we can make breakthroughs in heart disease happen.

Donate today to gift heart to the future.

Another extremely worthwhile cause for research and awareness, so please dig deep.

Ovarian Cancer Australia – Giving Day

Wednesday 26 February, 2025

Each year in Australia around 1,815 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In most cases the cancer will be diagnosed at an advanced stage, where it is very difficult to treat. Let’s ensure that every Australian knows more about ovarian cancer and its early symptoms.

We need progress, so lets get vocal this Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

The goal is to raise $550,000 on the day, so please donate generously to make much needed change.
