Your Health This Month

18 December 2024

Happy New Year and welcome to 2025…

January is here and can be a “new beginnings” month for many people, as the first day of the New Year denotes the perfect time to start something new. New Year resolutions are popping up and commitments to a “new this, better that” are written on the mirror in the bathroom, or in the diary, or stuck to the fridge with motivating pictures, stickers, photos and slogans to give you a boost.
For some the commitment will be very real, for others, well it might just fall by the wayside in a few months and that is ok, there’s always another first of the month.

When it comes to health, many people use this time of year to take the first steps to improve their health and well-being, something that GP’s could not encourage more.

Preventative Health is all about taking action towards better health and wellness, reducing and even avoiding the risk of illness, injury and/or early death. A simple blood pressure check, bloods review, or a basic skin check, could pick up something early and avoid an adverse event being the trigger for treatment. And don’t forget, your mental health is just as important as your physical, so seek help and support where this is needed.

This is also the most popular time of the year for smokers to kick the habit. There are no secrets around the unhealthy affect that smoking, and vaping, can have on your overall health. Your GP can assist you with smoking cessation referring to programs, or the like, that have proven to have great success rates.

So, while you are making some new year commitments, ensure one of them is to have a check-up with your GP, talk to them about your concerns, clarify misconceptions and let them help put you on the right path to better health in 2025.
