What's On in Geelong

genU Training

From Friday, November 30 2018 until Tuesday, December 31 2019

genU Training has real industry connections and focuses on real-life training to make students job ready.

genU Training is proud to offer students the opportunity to support clients in community based programs, such a recent collaboration between genU Training, Vision Australia and Winged Horse in Portarlington.

The Winged Horse takes in rescued and seized neglected animals. The organisation’s mission is to provide horses and other mistreated animals with a safe home until they are healthy enough to be adopted out to their forever homes.

Equine-assisted learning is central to the wellbeing centre’s commitment to community connections, in providing programs to community groups, in areas such as: aged care, people with a disability and youth at risk or schools.

genU Training students studying Certificate IV in Leisure and Health (CHC43415) joined with clients from Vision Australia, supporting their experience at Winged Horse through interaction with the animals.

genU Trainer, Elen Rees, led the students in their real-life learning experience; “Being a trainer at genU, it just became apparent that the fit between the two organisations was perfect.”

“genU students have the opportunity to conduct placement hours at Winged Horse and get something out of it that’s really important for the community.”

It’s also important as many organisations can’t afford to take clients or their residents out for the day with the costs that are involved to do so.

“People leave here with massive smiles on their faces”

“Getting out of the classroom, being in this environment is just great”
