Wendy and Laurie Heinrich have been residents of the Geelong Grove community for over three years and they have never looked back. After retiring as school teachers the move into a retirement village felt like the right step to reducing maintenance of their house and garden and allowing them to spend more time doing what they enjoy most.
Having spent 46 years in Geelong they wanted to stay within the Belmont/ Grovedale area, and after visiting several villages they felt Geelong Grove was the right fit for them. With an easy transition into the community they say “We felt at home immediately, we should have been here earlier. The staff are very friendly and approachable and helpful. The residents are also friendly and welcoming. The units are attractive, spacious and there is a variety of floor plans. The well maintained gardens are a definite feature of the village.”
Wendy and Laurie have always been active community members and they have embraced retirement living, “The Community Building is the centre for many varied activities with a bar, kitchen, billiard tables, piano and organ and a well-stocked library. Outside is a bowling green, putting green, BBQ area and provision for petanque. We have our own area of garden which we can maintain while we are able.”
Wendy attends monthly craft group, exercise group twice weekly and uses the services of the weekly hairdresser. She also plays the piano for the Buskers singing group. Laurie assists with the bar, volunteers as a bus driver and is a member of the Residents’ Committee.
