4 – 5 May
Geelong’s own multi-award winning extreme arts walk, Mountain-to-Mouth2018 (M~M2018), returns Friday 4 and Saturday 5 May, 2018.
In the tradition of Wadawurrung, M~M creates a contemporary Songline traversing the City of Greater Geelong and the Borough of Queenscliffe.
Covering 80 kilometres, from the granite ranges of the You Yangs to the mouth of the Barwon River at Barwon Heads, M~M brings together art, sport and community to connect with the land. At the head of the arts walk is Canoe, the lead commission of Mountain-to-Mouth.
Your adventure awaits…you choose the distance, you choose the challenge. You can start or finish at any of the 12 Songline Stations on the walk. You also have the choice of joining one, or all three of the main Ceremonies: Gathering of the Clan at the You Yangs, Gathering of the City at Johnstone Park or on Saturday night at Gathering of the Elements on the Barwon Heads foreshore.
M~M2018 begins at the You Yangs and will arrive in the city centre to collide with Geelong After Dark, a night of edgy and unexpected arts. Geelong lights up with spontaneous performances, music and art installations.
At dawn the next day, follow the Barwon River through rolling Bellarine farmland, along ocean beach to reach the Barwon Heads river mouth at sunset for a spectacular closing ceremony. The route is marked with site specific artworks commissioned for M~M2018.
In partnership with foundation partner Gen-U, 50% of all registration fees will fund the Greening of the Songline, a planting program of trees and shrubs along the contemporary Songline.
