The countdown to the 2020 Festival of Sails is on with Australia’s biggest annual celebration of sailing returning to the Geelong waterfront this Australia Day long weekend. The annual three-day festival attracts over 100,000 people to the Geelong Waterfront to enjoy plenty of action and entertainment, both on and off the water. Festival of Sails is the largest keelboat regatta in the southern hemisphere and Australia’s oldest annual sporting event. More than 3000 competitors and support crew from across the country and around the world will descend on Geelong for the historic event. Organised by the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC), the event also features the popular day and night Festival of Sails Waterfront Festival presented by Geelong Connected Communities, which draws huge crowds to the Geelong waterfront. The 2020 Waterfront Festival will feature a smorgasbord of exciting activations and experiences. It will also incorporate a return to Steampacket Gardens with a strong focus on family-friendly activities. Highlights will include live entertainment into the evening and “come and try” activities such as discover sailing and virtual reality sailing. There will also be a multitude of stallholders providing fine food and wine as well as arts and crafts. Other activities will include face painting, roving performers and an Australia Day fireworks display. Headline acts include Aussie singer/songwriter Richard Clapton and INXSIVE the INXS Tribute Show who will perform in the Regatta Village (at RGYC). Entry to Regatta Village is free but does require a wristband for access from 5pm. Please visit the Festival of Sails website to register for your wristband as bookings are essential. A full entertainment schedule will be announced on the website soon.
