The Sorrento Writers Festival
22-26 April
The Sorrento Writers Festival is a not-for-profit cultural and community organisation festival that brings year-round literary events, discussions and talks to Sorrento, the wider Mornington Peninsula and the Melbourne community.
The festival was conceived by award-winning journalist and former bookshop owner Corrie Perkin. The inaugural Festival was held in April 2023 and is the second-biggest in Australia (after Sydney Writers Festival).
It has a long-term commitment to improve literacy, enhance learning and provide a safe, stimulating and mutually-respectful environment in which to discuss ideas. It’s aim is that more children are reading books and are experiencing the joys of storytelling and the potential of their imaginations.
The 2026 program will bring together an exceptional line-up of leading Australian and international writers, journalists, thinkers and storytellers, alongside prominent community leaders, academics and creative artists. Audiences can look forward to a rich mix of fiction and non-fiction voices, bold ideas, lively conversations and inspiring performances across four days.
The 2026 Barry Jones Oration by Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Doherty, marking another highlight of what promises to be an exciting program.155 events, 200 speakers, 10+ free events, plus a wonderful Family Afternoon and Schools program.
