RUT Gallery – 7 March – 18 April
Celia Adams and Karenne Ann have created an exhibition to give voice to deeply troubling, accepted societal norms of war, atrocity, and environmental destruction. Both artists use children’s war toys in their artwork. The toys are symbolic and help to remind us that society has been inured to cruelty and inhumane practices of conflict and destruction through these seemingly mundane objects.
The title of the show, “Inured” is a word defined as, “to accustom (someone) to something, especially something unpleasant.”
They propose to fill what we perceive as a gap in the narrative by exploring anti-war, peace and environmental activism from a feminist point of view.
The exhibition is a display of paintings, photographs, assemblages, and floor installations.
