After Walter Hopps @ Platform Arts
Saturday 11 October – Thursday 11 December
Opening event: as part of ROAM Geelong on SAT 11 October – 4-10pm
This October through to December, Platform Arts hands over creative control of its gallery with their inaugural community art show, After Walter Hopps. Artists can bring in a single artwork (of any medium or theme) to be installed on a first-come, first-served basis in this fast-paced curatorial experiment.
This exhibition is inspired by Walter Hopps’ 36 Hours project, held in 1978 at the Museum of Temporary Art (MOTA) in Washington, USA. The aim is to fill the gallery from floor to ceiling, wall to wall, in a show that takes shape cumulatively and with community at its centre. After Walter Hopps will open with an empty gallery space, launching the three-day installation window. This will culminate in a conclusive hang and opening party as part of Geelong’s ROAM festival on Saturday 11 October, 4.00pm to 10.00pm.
Leading up to the opening night, the 36-hour install phase is from 9am to 9pm, Wed 08, Thu 09, and Fri 10 October. The submission process is free, and artists can list their work for sale. While Platform Arts endeavours to include as many works as possible, participation is not guaranteed; please visit our website and read the guidelines carefully before bringing in your art.
With Christmas around the corner, this exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to discover and purchase locally made artworks, which helps our local arts ecology thrive.
