Enjoy a relaxing lifestyle with Sproutwell

From humble beginnings and a simple idea, Sproutwell Greenhouses was born and has grown to be a well-known, iconic business within the Geelong region.

We sat down with Lisa, co-owner of the Sproutwell brand, and manager Chelsea, to learn a little bit more about their business, how they began, and what their plans are for the future.

Business owners, and husband and wife team Lisa and Clayton, spent quite some time working hard while raising a young family, and when Lisa decided she wanted to create a better work/life balance, she began to research new ideas to create and build her own business, so that there was more time for family, while also working on something they could enjoy.

After taking on some business development courses, and diving into a lot of learning and research, they came across the idea of greenhouses, which was something that they had never really considered prior. However, in their research, they discovered it was a relatively untapped market and a product that was in high demand.

It was at this point that they began looking at all facets of what was involved in setting up a greenhouse business, including importing, design, and warehousing, to ensure they had the knowledge and the ability to not only build the business but also provide impeccable quality and service to customers.

In 2011, Sproutwell Greenhouses was officially born. Clayton was still working full-time in construction management, so it was up to Lisa to take on a majority of the business load, utilising her skills in marketing and branding, while he supported as much as he could, particularly in the area of design and assembly.

In 2013 they opened their first display centre in Officer, which continued to grow and by 2016, they were in a position where they needed more staff and bigger facilities, simply due to the high demand on their product.

It was in 2016 that they opened their first Geelong space in Crown street, which was a positive move as not only did it cater much easier for the size of the business, but it meant they were also closer to home making it much more functional. With a close extended family surrounding them, Lisa and Clayton decided that as they were seeing such growth, they wanted to bring family along on their journey, and create opportunities where they could all work together and support each other.

When you walk into either of their two locations, you can truly feel the warm, family atmosphere and the commitment they have to one another, the business and their customers. This connection translates to personable service and an incredibly rare, family centred environment, which is a testament to why they have become such a popular and well-loved brand.

Over the years they continued to grow, and in 2020 built a warehouse and showroom in Leather St, where they remain now, to be able to cater for the size, volume and demand of their product. That same year, Cedar Hot Tubs, which includes saunas and ice baths, came to the forefront and that part of the business really took off, as they now had the space to market and advertise properly, creating an awareness for customers that this was a part of what they offered.

Sproutwell Decor came into the business at a later date and was born from a simple and unintentional idea. They began taking pieces to trade shows simply to enhance their displays, but found that people loved them. They were regularly being asked how they could buy them for their own home, and so from this, they decided to keep a smaller display within their Geelong showroom. Due to increased popularity, it wasn’t long before they needed a larger space to house the products that they were offering.

So, in 2023, just a short drive down the road from their showroom, Sproutwell Decor was opened, giving customers more variety and a space to browse through their entire range.

Sproutwell has now grown to a business with 2 large locations with over 15 employees, and has become a household name Australia wide.

The team are really excited for the future, despite no plans for expansion at this stage. They hope to be able to continue to provide a high-quality, specialty service to their customers, keeping a unique and family oriented business nestled in Geelong for many years to come.
