Authentic Greek Food At KALA

Chef Andy Symeonakis, after almost 3 years at 1915 in North Geelong, has his eyes on the coast and his focus on his Greek / Australian heritage. After recently losing his Grandmother (Yiayia), the Greek matriarch of the family and one of his biggest mentors and supporters, he says it’s time to step back, focus on the family, and spend more time doing what he loves. He’ll take with him his drive for detail, his modern culinary techniques and his goal of ensuring when you eat at his restaurant you feel like part of the family.

But now he’ll also be able to incorporate more of his Greek influences, flavours and styles, with that modern Symeonakis twist, pushing the boundaries of how good the dining experience can be.

KALA (Greek for ‘good’), Ocean Grove’s very own Greek restaurant is about to open. In partnership with one of the Bellarine’s powerhouse hospitality couples, Luca Guadagnin and Amy Springer (Andy’s sister-in-law), who already run the popular CHE VUOI in Barwon Heads and the picturesque new wine bar MONA in Wallington.

The trio bring a wealth of experience in every area of restaurateur life. Andy and Amy have teamed up over the years, together at Kingsley’s Crab and Steakhouse at Sydney’s Woolloomooloo Wharf, as well as private catering and even at 1915 Geelong. They know each other well and are referred to as the “A Team’ because when Andy is in the kitchen and Amy is front of house you can guarantee the customers will have an unforgettable experience.

Together with Luca, it’s the ultimate hospitality trifecta team and we can’t wait to see what they do in Ocean Grove. Opa!
