When our region turns on a perfect summer’s day, there are also some great family friendly beach stops that promise fun for every age group.
Breamlea Beach – This is a little tucked away gem that the locals know all about, particular those with young families and for anyone visiting this is a great beach to get to know. It does get busy in summer, but is definitely worth discovering.
Barwon Heads – This is a perfect spot for everyone to enjoy. It’s where the Barwon River meets to sea and for small fry the river side is a perfect spot to dabble and frolic, with a great playground just nearby. Otherwise head around the corner and a beautiful beach awaits.
Ocean Grove – A holiday favourite which bustles in summer and has a great vibe. You can typically grab a snack or a coffee and head down to the shoreline to lay your towel down and settle in for a great day of sun and surf.
Point Roadnight – In Torquay and another coastal Gem worth the drive. It takes quite a few stairs to get down to but once your there, you will not want to leave. It’s tucked away in a cosy cove and is a perfect way to pass the day with the family and sit back and take in the view.
Eastern Beach is always a sure favourite with calm bay water, a small swimming pool for the little ones and even a café for a coffee for the adults. There is also a huge playground, promising much fun.
Alternatively, if the kids don’t want the sand between their toes but need to cool off, it’s a summer of fun at Geelong’s various swim, sport and leisure centres. Check their Instagram page @swimsportgeelong for updates and check out www.cityofgreatergeelong.com.au for details on a variety of indoor/outdoor pools in Geelong.
However you and your family and friends cool off this summer, be sure to stay water safe.
