The Blues Train
One of the most popular destinations in Victoria.

More than 72,000 votes were registered in an RACV survey which asked people to vote for their favourite among 600 Victorian tourism experiences.
The top 101 were revealed on Channel Nine travel show ‘Postcards’ recently.
The Queenscliff Blues Train came in at number six, knocking
off popular destinations and activities such as Sovereign Hill
and Puffing Billy.
Hugo Armstrong from The Blues Train said ‘We're really happy to be in there, and especially to be the only music event there,’ Mr Armstrong said.
‘We were in the top 10 for nearly all the campaign but you always have that little bit of apprehension that you might be knocked out.’
The Blues Train was founded in 1994 when Hugo Armstrong joined forces with Pasquini's Deli of Point Lonsdale. The train had been used for similar concerts but without the blues twist.
Hugo drew from some of the region’s finest blues musicians to make the Blues Train Armstrong one of the most popular and renowned dining and musical experiences in the country.
‘It's such a unique show that we only create new shows once the old shows have sold out,’ he said.
‘So many people book way in advance, and we've got people coming from interstate and all around Victoria just to experience the Blues Train.’

A Bollard of a Life!
12 December - 1 March 2009
National Wool Museum Geelong

What does a Portuguese Explorer have to do with
Geelong and why is a Tram Conductress (with cigarette
in mouth) knitting baby clothes but not wearing a wedding ring? These and other stories are told in a new exhibition at the National Wool Museum, A Bollard of a Life: Jan Mitchell and Geelong’s Bollards.
The exhibition not only features Geelong’s iconic bollards but also celebrates the extensive artistic life of one of the City’s most influential artists – and the inspiration behind the Baywalk Bollards – Jan Mitchell, who passed away in March 2008.
This exhibition has been initiated by the National Wool Museum and is being created by Caolan Mitchell, Jan’s son and Director of Canberra-based exhibition design company, Thylacine.
The 111 Baywalk Bollards have been adopted by Geelong residents and visitors alike, and have become symbolic of the City on a national and international level. Jan’s painted wooden sculpted figures tell a narrative of the people, the culture and the heritage of Geelong, with each Bollard the key to a myriad of fascinating stories, from indigenous inhabitants, to explorers, to opera singers and lifesavers.
This exhibition focuses on a selection of bollards and tells the story of the person represented. Access to Jan’s notes and sketches provides a unique insight into the creation of the bollard and the reasons for its selection.
The exhibition also recreates the iconic original bollard workshop, located for many years at Deakin Waterfront Woolstores. At the same time, this provides a space to function as a real workshop where possibly the final bollard in the collection will be created within the exhibition – one of Jan Mitchell herself.
Jan Mitchell contributed more than just the Bollards.
She was a print maker, book illustrator, an award-winning animation artist and television designer. She worked in Australia, England and Ireland and created Ireland’s first pre-school television show, Bosco.
This is the first exhibition to display examples of all of Jan’s work.

8 February
A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Oakdene

Be taken on this journey with Essential Theatre at Oakdene Vineyards as they play Shakespeare’s brilliant romantic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as part of their tour across Australia with Shakespeare in the Vines.
William Shakespeare takes us on a magical journey into the Athenian woodland where four lovers have escaped the laws of the land to seek freedom and happiness. In these same woods we meet two other very different groups of characters. The first is a band of fairies, including Oberon, the fairy king, his mischievous servant Puck and Titania, the queen of the fairies. The second is
a band of bumbling Athenian craftsmen trying their hand at showbiz!
What transpires in this forest is entertainment in its best form. Magical spells, hilarious trickery, and an “Ass” all make up a night filled with love, laughter and dazzling dreams.
As the sun begins to set do not miss your opportunity to share a night of fine food, wine and entertainment. Gate opens at 4pm, Sunday 8th February.
