Bellarine

Leopold - Gateway Sanctuary
As you head out of Geelong towards the Bellarine Peninsula the Gateway Sanctuary is located on the right and features wildlife, wetland retreats, picnic spots, parkland areas, trails, a playground, toilets, BBQs and shelter. Bellarine Hwy Leopold.

Barwon Heads
Barwon Heads enjoys views of the coast from the Bluff, sheltered estuary waters and great ocean beaches. The sandy estuary is ideal for paddling, fishing and boating. Barwon Heads has become a haven for eateries, bakeries, restaurants and shopping. Thirteenth Beach features a wild coastline with some of the best surf in the state.

Ocean Grove
Ocean Grove is the largest town on the Bellarine Peninsula, growing rapidly over the past 20 years. It is a thriving holiday resort, blessed with one of the longest, safest beaches in the state, as well as the Barwon estuary. Enjoy year round walks along the coast, river banks, the Nature Reserve on Grubb Road, and the Ocean Grove Park on Presidents Avenue with its significant habitat for native birds, graded heart walk and beautiful children’s playground.

Point Lonsdale
Point Lonsdale is situated at the western end of the Bellarine Peninsula. It overlooks the entrance to Port Phillip Bay where the sheltered waters of the bay meet the surging swells of Bass Strait. This 3.5 km stretch of water is known as the Rip and is recognised as one of the most dangerous stretches of water on the Australian coastline.

Queenscliff
Queenscliff was legendary as a military and naval post in the 1880’s. The historic Queenscliff Fort and Black Lighthouse tower over the coastline and at the end of Hesse Street is the Shortland’s Bluff Lookout, where you can view ships negotiating the treacherous Rip. The mid 19th-C atmosphere remains in its elegant hotels, guesthouses and private homes.

Drysdale / Clifton Springs
Clifton Springs, known in the late 19th century for its mineral water springs, is located on the bay side of Drysdale. Visit Drysdale and venture through its shopping precinct, cafes, explore the museum and the historic Drysdale Rail Station.

Portarlington
This peaceful resort is at the northern-most tip of the Bellarine Peninsula between Indented Head and Clifton Springs. It was founded in 1854 and is situated on Corio Bay with safe swimming beaches, an excellent playground and picnic area on the foreshore. The pier is the home of Victoria’s mussel fleet.
